A 400,000-item queue, cleared

A fleet-telematics provider had a vehicle-tracking queue more than 400,000 items deep and hours behind. Their clients could not see where their own fleet was.

Throughput had fallen behind the work coming in. The queue grew, the data went stale, and the product stopped doing the one thing it promised.

We performance-tuned the workload and reduced the core count at the same time.

The queue is gone. Throughput went from 70 items a second to 130. The licensing bill came down 30% alongside it.
